HyperEVM is an Ethereum-compatible execution environment embedded inside the Hyperliquid Layer 1, running under the same HyperBFT consensus as the L1 perpetuals orderbook. Solidity contracts can read L1 state (oracle prices, perp positions, HLP vault balances) via precompiles and send actions back via CoreWriter, enabling designs like on-chain market makers and orderbook-hedged lending vaults. It launched in February 2025 and quickly became one of the fastest-growing DeFi ecosystems.

Is HyperEVM a Layer 2?

No. HyperEVM is not a rollup and does not settle to Ethereum. It is a second execution environment inside Hyperliquid's own Layer 1, sharing the same HyperBFT consensus as the perpetuals orderbook. Its security is Hyperliquid's, not Ethereum's.

What makes HyperEVM different from other EVM chains?

Direct read/write access to a live on-chain orderbook via precompiles. A HyperEVM lending contract can liquidate a position against the L1 CLOB in the same block, and a structured product can hedge with real orderbook depth without leaving the chain. That coupling is not available on other EVM chains.

How safe is HyperEVM for large deposits?

Hyperliquid is a young, single-team L1 with a smaller validator set and less battle-testing than Ethereum. The bridge from Arbitrum has historically been the biggest fragility point. Users should size positions relative to that concentration risk and Hyperliquid's own operational track record rather than treating it as Ethereum-secured.
