About Unichain

Uniswap Labs' DeFi-native Ethereum L2, built around Uniswap V4 and cross-chain liquidity.

Unichain is an Ethereum L2 built by Uniswap Labs on the OP Stack, mainnet since February 12, 2025. It ships with Uniswap V4 deployed natively at genesis and targets ~1 second block times with a Trusted-Execution-Environment sequencer built with Flashbots. UNI holders can stake in the UNI Validation Network to secure the chain, giving the token a direct staking role beyond governance.

  • TVL around $1B+ range in 2026 per DeFiLlama, with Uniswap V4 pools alone above $300M+ across the chain; nearly half of all Uniswap V4 volume runs on Unichain.
  • OP Stack optimistic rollup, part of the Optimism Superchain; 1s block times, gas ~95% cheaper than Ethereum L1.
  • Ships Uniswap V4 at genesis with 2,500+ Hook-based custom pools deployed by early 2026 per Uniswap Labs.
  • TEE-based block building via Flashbots for verifiable ordering and MEV mitigation, unique among L2s.
  • UNI Validation Network lets UNI holders stake to validate blocks and earn fee revenue, tying the token directly to chain security.

Frequently asked questions

Is Unichain just for Uniswap?

It is designed around DeFi generally, but Uniswap V4 is deployed natively at genesis and drives most of the chain's activity. Other DEXs and lending protocols can and do deploy there, but Unichain's economic gravity is centered on Uniswap V4 liquidity.

What is the UNI Validation Network?

A staking system that lets UNI holders run or delegate to validators that verify Unichain blocks and earn a share of fee revenue. It's the first direct utility for UNI beyond governance and, combined with the fee switch on Uniswap V3/V4, gives the token a clearer claim on protocol activity.

How does Unichain compare to Base or Arbitrum for DeFi?

Base and Arbitrum are general-purpose L2s with much larger TVL and more diverse protocol coverage. Unichain is smaller but purpose-built for DEX liquidity, so V4 pools tend to be deeper on Unichain and hook-based custom AMMs launch there first. For lending, the other L2s still have more depth.
